(A.M. Custodian)
Gary Channel has been a custodian for 4 years at Homestead Elementary He started substituting in 1997 before he became hired full time in 1999. He has worked at most of the schools in Randolph County.
His duties include basic cleaning of the school, teachers rooms and the gym. In the summer it is his job to mow the grass and in the winter shovel the snow. He also has to maintain the floors throughout the school by sweeping, mopping and waxing them.
The school has the same concrete and wooden floors in it from when the school was originally built. Back in 1958 when he was a freshman at Elkins Junior High, he played basketball and his games were held at Homestead School.
He enjoys working at the school and with the children who like to give him a hard time. His co-orkers are outstanding - especially when he has been sick or there has been a death in the family, the staff has given lots of support.
He has been married to his wife, Nellie, for 32 years. He has two children, Crystal and Gary, Jr.
