What we've been up to so far...
Peter Pan Play- On January 12th, all EMS students attended the play Peter Pan at Elkins High School. Students at EHS worked hard to make this play an enjoyable experience for all.
WV Clearinghouse - Green and White Teams met in the LMC on February 3rd and 4th to gain information about the WV Clearinghouse, Guidance Department and Gear-Up during school hours.
A big THANKS - EMS would like to thank all parents of eighth grade students who attended the parents' workshop. This workshop was held to prepare eighth grade students for high school. EMS had a nice turnout for this event.
Science Spectacular - EMS GEAR-UP sponsored 50 eighth grade students from Mrs. Sinsel and Mrs. Mergenthaler's class to attend a Science Spectacular at Fairmont State University. The presenter used science experiments to encourage students' interest in science and to introduce students to the contributions of minority individuals to science. The presenter also talked to the students about how to be successful in life. Volunteers from the audience were chosen to help with a few science experiments that investigated dry ice, pH and a variety of gases. The students especially enjoyed the "explosive" experiments dealing with oxygen and hydrogen gas.
Drama - Fourteen students from the EMS extended studies program had the opportunity to watch the musical performance of "Cats" at the Creative Arts Center in Morgantown. The EMS GEAR-UP program sponsored this trip.
