Hunting Season: Be Aware or Beware

By: Kristen Stump

To many people, deer hunting is a big thing. Some even take off work and school for it. They put on their camouflage and head out early in the morning. There’s also many things that can go wrong during deer hunting; some people go on other people's property and kill deer without permission. People can get hurt if there are too many people in one area and have no idea about each other. Someone could easily be mistaken for a deer and accidentally get shot.

Many accidents happen when it comes to deer. You always see them lying on the side of the road, hit by a vehicle. Research says that 70% of car-deer accidents occur between October and December. You also often hear of people getting accidentally shot. In Mississippi, a 16 year old boy was shot accidentally during a family hunting trip by his 20 year old brother, and didn’t make it. They said that even the tiniest slip in basic hunting rules can end in tragedy, like the safety on a gun being off and a person not knowing it. Learning the rules and basic knowledge of hunting should be a part of every hunter's schedule. Remembering these simple tips can help save a car or even a life.

A New Ping Pong Table

By Gary McIe

Here at the Alternative Learning Center we have a variety of activities to do, like basketball, football, baseball, and a couple of other activities. But after a while, everybody gets bored because they do the same thing over and over. So one day out of nowhere, one of the teachers donated a ping pong table.

Now we finally have something new to do. Even the teachers use it and play against each other and the students also compete against each other. Finally we have something new to keep us busy for a while till we get bored with it. As Chris Crane said, “I think it is good that we got something new.”

I think the teachers have more fun with it than the students which is pretty funny. Everybody thinks it is cool that we have a ping pong table. The students are still getting used to it. Mr. Hearn is helping the students out with the table tennis to make them better, which is a good thing and nice.  So stay on the lookout for a tournament sometime.

A Christmas Rant

By Allen Heater

Um, my thoughts on Xmas... it was the birth of one very controversial person on this planet, Jesus. It's a cool day but a fat guy in a red suit breaking into your house...hmm, no that just isn't right. The hole day needs redone to better suit the day because we have a holiday for everything, so yeah we can have Xmas sometime in the summer or something. Think about it, when you're a kid it teaches you that it's okay to break into other people's houses. but no it's not. And flying deer? Come on, I never believed in Santa, but that’s me. I never really liked holidays that well... they're kind of cool but they're just not represented the right way in my opinion. Well, y'all, that’s it. Have a happy holiday and a merry new year.
