MODIFIED DIPLOMAS POLICY
1. Scope:
1.1 Barbour County Board of Education will reward regular diplomas to all students who complete the required course of study and accrue the appropriate number of credits per West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) and Barbour County Schools policies.
1.2 Barbour County Board of Education acknowledges that certain identified students with special needs may not be able to obtain a regular diploma.
1.3 Students identified as special needs who participate in the WV Alternate Performance Task Assessment (APTA) as determined by their Individualized Education Plan (IEP), may receive a modified diploma.
2. Definition
2.1 Modified diploma does not meet the requirements for graduation as determined by the WVDE . It is an alternative that suggest mastery of goals and objectives and consistency of attendance.
3. Authorization:
3.1 Students with special needs, whose IEP team has determined they taking the West Virginia APTA, may receive a modified diploma as determined in the Individualized Education Plan.
3.2 Any IEP team that is considering awarding a modified diploma shall invite the Director of Student Support Services or Designee.
3.3 Students eligible for modified diploma will follow county policies and procedures for graduation.
3.4 Students eligible for modified diploma may participate in graduation ceremony upon completion of academic tenure.
